Artist Statement

Our experience with the human body goes deeper than the surface of the skin may reveal. Its presence and movement are emotionally felt through our experiences with texture, gesture, and light. In my work, each piece revolves around parts of the human body rather than the whole. To suggest, rather than state, what is there is more interesting to me. I like to work in charcoal, watercolor and pastel. Each piece is a process of building up the material and breaking it down again. I have to let parts of the image go in order to retrieve them in better and new ways. I aspire to create pondering moods and obscure atmospheres in my work.

My beginnings as an artist started in private lessons given at Repenning Fine Arts in Southern New Jersey. Although not from a family of artists, I pursued art for my immediate love of drawing the figure. I was educated in the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts’ Certificate Program. Throughout the entire program, I have never strayed from my focus and appreciation for the figure.

My next show will be at New Hope's Fine Arts and Crafts Festival on September 26th and 27th!! All of the work on this website will be exhibited. I will personally be there to make some new friends and see some great art!
